Driving Innovation in TravelTech: Our Experience Building Scalable, API Driven Travel Platforms
AVAMAE have strong experience partnering with TravelTech clients to design and build integrated platforms that bring together large volumes of travel data, streamline partner operations, and deliver smooth booking experiences. This work has focused on two core capabilities: a sophisticated API aggregation layer and a flexible, white label booking engine. Together, these systems demonstrate how well designed technical architecture can support complex travel businesses operating at scale.
Engineering a Unified API Aggregator
Many travel companies face a recurring challenge: dozens of suppliers and channels, each with different data structures, refresh rates and integration methods. To address this for one of our clients, we developed a centralised aggregator capable of normalising upstream travel data into a single, consistent output that downstream systems can trust.
Structured Ingestion and Normalisation
The aggregator processes diverse inputs—from accommodation providers to ski area products, equipment hire services and other travel specific sources. These arrive via REST, SOAP, XML, JSON and automated file drops.
We built a processing layer that resolves inconsistencies and enforces rules for availability, pricing, seasonal variations, cancellation policies, commissions, tourist taxes, and operational details such as office or shop hours.
Role Based Access and Operational Control
To support the different needs of client teams and their partners, we created two main interfaces:
- Admin Interface, for internal management of suppliers, product content, pricing logic, translations and partner permissions.
- Partner Admin Interface, enabling partners to manage their own content, configuration and branding without depending on technical teams.
Both sit behind a secure authentication model, with IP controls and permission based access to keep environments safe and consistent.
Cloud Native Infrastructure for Scale
The aggregator is deployed on a containerised cloud environment orchestrated by Kubernetes. This provides high resilience, smooth deployment cycles and the ability to scale automatically during peak booking periods. Databases and services are optimised to handle high frequency availability updates and heavy search traffic.
Developing a White Label Travel Booking Engine
Alongside the aggregator, we have built consumer facing booking engines that allow clients to offer rich, configurable travel journeys—whether for end customers or for their network of agents and partners.
A Complete, Customer Centric Booking Journey
Travellers can browse destinations, explore accommodation, compare options and configure multiproduct packages. All pricing and availability are retrieved in real time from the aggregator, ensuring accuracy from search through to checkout. Product pages include imagery, maps, resort information and detailed attributes to support confident decision making.
Customisable CMS for Partner Autonomy
We also built a CMS allowing clients and their partners to manage destination content, product groupings, seasonal pricing, branding, layouts and language options. This reduces manual operational work and enables partners to tailor their own customer experience while still benefiting from a shared platform.
Integrated Architecture for Consistency
Because the booking engine consumes the aggregator's unified outputs directly, any update to availability, pricing or content is reflected immediately. We also support agent specific portals, giving B2B partners tailored pricing, dedicated booking flows and controlled access to specific products.
A TravelTech Platform Built for Real World Demands
Across these TravelTech projects, we've delivered:
- A unified, normalised data ecosystem capable of consolidating multiple supplier feeds.
- A scalable, cloud native API layer optimised for real-time, high-volume search.
- A white label booking platform that partners can configure without bespoke development.
- Support for both B2C and B2B journeys, backed by automated and accurate data flows.
These systems show how thoughtful TravelTech engineering can modernise operations, reduce duplication, and create reliable, high quality booking experiences for customers and partners across multiple client organisations.
