Building an ecommerce solution for an Online Travel Agent 

Read about how we worked with one of the UKs largest and most trusted Ski Specialists to create a powerful ecommerce site, which allows their customers to configure and book their ideal skiing holiday  

Powder White are a team of ski experts who have been providing travel agent services to skiers since their inception in 2003. Having already worked together, they came to us with a request to design and build a new ecommerce site, to replace their existing one  

The key requirements of the new Powder White site were that it provided a great user experience for customers and allowed them the flexibility to specify and manage all aspects of their skiing holiday, from accommodation, to equipment hire and lift passes. At the same time it was important that comprehensive configuration and automated updating of prices and availability was built into the admin functionality.

Visitors to the Powder White site are able to browse and search ski holiday locations across Europe and North America and build their ideal holiday. There are multiple pathways to view information;  browsing through countries and resorts, or by accommodation type, by searching on dates, location and guest numbers, or viewing suggestions on highlights, ‘We Think You’ll Love’ and offers pages.  

Visitors can access in depth information about each resort, including images, maps of ski runs, lifts, facilities and activity details and information about how to get there. Searching their accommodation requirements will return a list that matches their location, dates and guests, which can also be accessed as a map view. Comprehensive details of each accommodation are displayed, along with details of the multiple room options that are available for each accommodation. All prices and availability that are displayed on site are based on live information. 

It is also possible to search for equipment and ski passes in each location and to add these to an accommodation booking (or just book them independently), meaning that customers can arrange everything they will need for their trip in one place. All available options for equipment and ski passes available in the selected resort are shown and customers can select and tailor to their required duration, as well as enter details such as height and shoe size, so that equipment can be ready for them on arrival.    

Powder White also offers multi-currency options and gives customers the functionality to manage their booking and payments online, allowing them to pay a deposit and further part payments at a later date

Updates and Administration  

The Powder White team make sure that the site stays up-to-date and looking fresh via an administrative platform, which allows them to update content, products and offers. They are able to create and edit highlight pages and landing pages for marketing and promotion purposes.  

A Bookings Management area allows full control of bookings received via the website, so that the team can view and update bookings, they can also take payments and part-payments by card in this area. Cancellation functionality is available, which flags to the user the cancellation policies that will apply when doing so.  

Data on the vast number of accommodation options that are offered on the site, are provided by a powerful API that integrates the data from multiple supplier channels. This facilitates the display of live pricing and availability data, as well as all the accommodation details. 



White Labelling Opportunities

The Powder White website was designed with white labelling in mind; the team behind the website were keen to make a non-branded version of the Powder Website available to their ecommerce partners as a Online Travel Agent template site.  

Partners using the white labelled site have access to their own dedicated ecommerce CMS, which allows them to configure the site with their own branding, logos and images, as well as personalise things like which pages are offered and how the site menu looks. They can manage their own SEO by adding titles, meta tags and tagging custom pages and headers. They can also add tracking tools to provide them with analytics related to their site usage.  

The white labelled version of the site also makes use of the partner’s API to provide all the required information about availability and reservations, so that it’s users can be sure they are always seeing live data.
