Marjan Television Network was established in 2009 as a platform from which to develop and launch a new television channel that would not only entertain but also capture the imagination of a Persian speaking audience. Its broad spectrum of content quickly gained an unprecedented following and fanbase amongst Persian-language web and satellite viewers. AVAMAE enjoy an ongoing relationship with Marjan Television Network, working with them on their satellite and web operations from launch.

 
 

The Brief

We were briefed with building a website which would function as a focal point for the channel for a worldwide audience, hosting a range of content, from on-demand video to news. The main aim of the project was to increase awareness of the TV Channel for a global Persian-speaking audience and encourage user participation within the website.

 

The Challenge

The main challenge for this project was making sure that the system was robust enough to make large amounts of varying data available to audiences at any time, as well as handling security issues such as DDoS attacks. The Marjan web team were also keen to ensure that they were able to manage the variety of rich content easily and quickly 24/7; this included video, audio and written content such as news.

 
 

The Solution

We delivered a highly scalable and resilient web production environment for Marjan Television Network. We implemented high availability architecture, balancing the load across multiple servers to ensure that the website can handle both a large amount of data, traffic and user-generated content, as well as dealing with attacks on security with minimal to no downtime. We built a custom video player and integrated the site with Akamai, a Content Delivery Network, to deliver high quality live video streaming and on-demand services. We also built corporate and news sites, which sit seamlessly alongside this.

The design was focused on bold imagery, with a clear right-to-left layout and navigation and content primarily available in Farsi, to make it easily accessible for a Persian audience. As well as live and recorded video streaming, viewers can also interact with Manoto’s content via commenting and rating functionality and access related news, blog posts and a forum.

We have made it easy for the Manoto team to manage their wide variety of content from their custom CMS, which also allows them to create a microsite for a TV show without any coding knowledge.
